Insight

I appreciate the simple things in life. Sitting quietly at my favorite cafe downtown enjoying a cup of coffee, playing catch with my 5 year old daughter, bike rides with my beautiful wife. These things bring a richness and depth to my life. Enjoying each and every moment, and being present is my endeavor.  I am fortunate to be surrounded by such awe inspiring beauty. As a photographer, I see a photo opportunity in nearly everything I see. I am blessed with talented, loving and creative friends, a beautiful family and a wonderful place I can call home.

I believe in the power of thought and positive energy. I also believe that what we think and say has everything to do with how we feel, who we are and where we are in our lives. Recent findings in quantum physics reveal the affects of how our thoughts influence water molecules. Read more here: Can positive thoughts affect water molecules?

I am reminded of a saying I heard years ago - If you say you can do it you're right. If you say you can't do you're also right. We at times tell ourselves (and get ourselves to believe) that we are are incapable, lack competency or just don't have what it takes to reach a certain goal. These thoughts or "excuses" are best outlined in a book I am currently reading by Dr. Wayne Dyer called Excuses Be Gone. He explains the detriment in such thought processes and goes on to explain how we can actually retrain our brains in order to move beyond our excuses and into prosperity, health and enlightenment. To me this is refreshing and exciting news. What it has and is revealing to me is that we can be what we choose to be. We can achieve the health and prosperity we crave. We can affect change in our lives and break out of the cycle of excuses we have created for ourselves. We possess the infinite power to change our lives. This is all based on how we think and how we perceive the world around us.

I understand the value of positive affirmation. It has helped me overcome fear, pain, illness and despair. Believe me when I say that I have used nearly every excuse in "the book". I am quite familiar with self sabotaging behavior. I have placed unnecessary restrictions and limitations on myself for years. I am now working daily to improve my attitude and perceptions to change that. Words and thoughts are very powerful. They can be used to uplift and empower. They can also be extremely destructive. It's is crucial that we encourage one another to grow and to heal. Positive change begins with self, and has the potential to grow throughout our communities. Is it to grandiose of an idea to believe that by healing our own lives we can heal the world? I believe not.
