About me:

Alpine Photography was established as a business in Chico 2005. Chris Woodcox, also known as “Alpine,” began seriously chronicling his experiences through the lens in 1999 – when digital photography was a relatively new concept to the public. Naturally adapting to this higher form of photographic technology, he and his camera literally became “attached at the wrist.” Whether attending a social gathering or live music venue, a weekend getaway to a family vacation, Chris documented every moment.

It didn't take long before family and friends took interest in his ability to tell a story through photography – and requests for his talent grew. The idea of becoming a professional photographer really blossomed when his friends, many of whom are musicians and artists, began asking if he would take pictures during a performance. Chris would oblige, not only because of his love for photography, but to build his skills as a photographer. More often than not, these images found their way into local publications, promotional material, CD covers and various websites. Chris's images “caught” the magic of a live performance and conveyed the energy of each moment.

Family enjoyed the benefits of the “resident photographer” as well. Family functions & gatherings would often turn into impromptu photo sessions including both posed and candid family shots. Again, request for prints and digital copies increased as the years went by.

Chris has honed his skills and approach to digital photography. The end-result of digital photography can be highly successful or just plain mediocre, depending on the amount of creative control the photographer has. Chris's experience and his inherent knack to capture the many facets of life through the lens, both spontaneous and planned, is testimony to his talent. The digital darkroom has also enhanced his ability to deliver not just a “good picture” – but truly exceptional images.

By 2005, Chris had successfully established a name for himself locally as a talented and creative photographer. So he decided to start a business, and Alpine Photography was born. “I've always had an interest in computers, art and technology. Photography gave me a chance to blend all three elements & to do what I love. I see it as “capturing the trueness of life in all of its complexity. From serene landscapes to a child's smiling face, to a musician bearing his soul through his music. It's how I see the world and how I can translate that to others.”

Alpine has been right in the mix during the evolution of digital photography. Not only with constant camera/equipment upgrades but also by continuing his education. He stays up to date by attending seminars and photography courses. “I recently attended Nikon school which allowed me to further my understanding of digital photography as well as connect with others who share similar interests.” Keeping up with technology is quite a task the way it is ever-changing. Currently my primary camera is a DSLR Nikon D200 10.2 MP. (Digital Single Lens Reflect camera. MP = mega pixels) I also travel with two back-ups. A second Nikon DSLR and a digital “point & shoot” Nikon coolpix P5000 10 MP camera. Both DSL's share a wide selection of inner-changeable lenses, from wide-angle to telephoto or zoom lenses.

I glean much information by reading Popular Photography, American Photo and PC Photo; all offers a wealth of info on digital art and photography.”

Alpine enjoys Photography with a passion. He approaches every assignment with creativity and professionalism.

A photograph is more than what you see . . . It's how it makes you feel. Capturing creative, inspiring & timeless images is my passion and my goal.”
