Changin' times 09/01/2011

It's a beautiful life. That's my take on it anyway. It's peaks and valleys. It just feels so significant to be alive right here right now. I suppose many generations have felt the same way.
I was introduced to this world on August 29th 1973. I grew up in a time that seems like a world away. The 80's. Times were much simpler, more organic if you will. Technology was very limited, at least in retrospect. I'll be honest with ya when we bought our first VCR with a corded remote, we thought we were pretty awesome. No cell phones just land lines and a message machine. No flat screens, just a ancient beast of a television with a dial on the front and rabbit ears adhered  to a broken antenna using aluminum foil. Not to mention only 4 channels. No computers, just old school typewriters. You show a kid a typewriter today and the majority of those 15 and under would ask in bewilderment..."ummm, what the heck is that?".
Funny how quickly things have changed. I'm not even that old yet but here I am reminiscing on the good old days. Have all the technological advancements improved our way of life? Has it hindered us? It's impossible to say. Some folks are resistant to change. Some are attempting to hold onto yesterday...."Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Now it see it seems as though they're here to stay. Oh I believe in yesterday." What's funny to me is that in ten years time, today September 1st 2011 will be "back in the day". I myself am excited to see what the future holds. I am a father to a beautiful, bright and curious little girl soon to turn 5 years old. I do wonder what her future will hold and what kind of technology will be available to her when she is my age. Wow, that will be the year 2034! Our world is certain to be vastly different than it is today.
Times they are a changin' and there is no stopping technology. If you can find some time and really wanna trip out on what's to come. Read something by Ray Kurzweil. Singularity explained. Type his name into a youtube search and listen to what he's talking about. The subject is singularity and I find it both scary and fascinating. I'm sure you will too.
